Rachel Hayes was angered by the Facebook snub, deputies said
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly slapping an elderly woman who refused her Facebook friend request.
Rachel Hayes is accused of assaulting the 72-year-old woman at her home after they argued about the social media snub, deputies in Florida said.
The pensioner refused the request because she thought the name Hayes was using on her Facebook profile was inappropriate, a police report said.
She reportedly told Hayes she would accept the request if she changed the name.
Hayes, who was upset by the rebuff, left the woman's home, but later returned to continue the argument.
The verbal spat escalated and Hayes slapped the older woman "several times", deputies said.
Hayes was arrested on Thursday and booked into the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater, near Tampa.
She faces a felony charge of aggravated assault of an elderly person.
